End prohibition!
Mary Jane's Utopian Mission Statement

Mary Jane Magazine will report on issues of interest to the Medical Marijuana community in Washington State. We will educate, advocate and, hopefully, entertain.

Why? We want to do our part to end prohibition.

Widespread adoption of Medical Marijuana is the first step to ending the society-damaging madness known as illegal pot. Awareness of the medical uses of this beautiful flower is growing by leaps and bounds as state after state adopt laws allowing the ill and infirm more access to the drug. Editorial pages across the U.S. are endorsing the sanity of the marijuana-as-medicine concept. Sadly, the constant stream of good news is mixed with a steady flow of disturbing pot-bust stories.

In an ideal world, pot would be legal in the same way nicotine and alcohol are legal now. Citizens of a certain age could buy it at the corner store. But right now in Washington State even medical patients must be wary of gray areas and pitfalls, the most ominous being the fact that marijuana is illegal on the Federal level.

If our elected representatives would simply make use of their common sense and legalize recreational marijuana, they would create tax revenue out of thin air, and free law enforcement from the time-wasting endeavor of pursuing folks engaged in consensual activity. It’s happening in small stages on a state level here in Washington, as well as in Oregon and California and Colorado. A green rush, they call it. Vermont, New Mexico, Nevada, Montana, Michigan – the list grows every day.

Mary Jane wants to be on the forward edge of this revolution, a cultural sea-change bringing benefits by the bushel: tax revenues reaped not merely at point-of-sale but from the newly-legitimized jobs of growing and transporting the product; budget savings derived from newly-unburdened courts and police departments; and of course the incalculable benefits accorded to the newly-emancipated individual.

Come with us. Should be sweet.
