Classic Marijuana Magazines

Started with pot-smuggling money by underground media pioneer Tom Forcade, High Times enjoyed a glorious and subversive run until Forcade's suicide in 1978, shortly after he and a film crew followed the Sex Pistols on their violent American tour. The magazine has survived, and now is positioned to reap huge financial rewards from the exploding pot industry.

This issue of short-lived and way underground Head magazine from May 1977 has an article called "How To Make Acid At Home." Shows how permissive things were back in the 1970s, a golden age for smut and dope magazines unafraid to dose the reader with radical politics: High Times, National Lampoon, Hustler, Screw and, for a brief shining moment, Head.

Sinsemilla Tips was published from 1979-1990. It's got a rustic hippie look and was kind of a trade magazine for pot growers. (Vol 2 #2, Summer 1981)

Imprisoned 52-year-old Canadian pot activist Marc Emery's Cannabis Culture was a physical magazine from 1995 until March 2009 when it went "online-only." On the cover of this issue (#69, October 2008) is Marc's lovely 31-year-old wife Jodie. More about why so many geriatric pot-activist dudes have hot young partners in our Spring issue!
